Description: The Mazon Creek locale, near the Illinois River in east central Illinois, is a world-famous fossil collecting site, producing abundant and spectacularly well-preserved fossil plants and animals of Pennsylvanian age. The field trip will include bus transportation to and from the collecting sites, a box lunch, and the services of a local expert as guide and instructor on the fine art of finding and opening the concretions or "coal balls" in which the fossils are contained. Our guide will also display a part of his extensive collection of local fossils, and discuss the classification of the Mazon Creek flora and fauna, and the environment in which they lived.

Registration limit — 40 participants, on a first come, first served basis.
