Learning Objectives

Students will gain an understanding of:

1) Natal dispersal and Greenwood's hypothesis explaining the differences in which sex disperses (sex biased dispersal) in birds and mammals.

2) The costs and benefits of migration.

3) Obligate and facultative migration and examples of each.

4) Cues used in migration and examples.

5) The examples of migratory species discussed in class.

6) Hassler's study demonstrating the mechanism by which salmon return to their natal streams.
